Community Guidelines

Creating a respectful and supportive environment for all participants in our sacred journey of fasting

Core Principles

Sacred Purpose

We come together in fasting to seek God's will, draw closer to Him, and strengthen our spiritual lives. Every interaction should honor this sacred purpose.

  • • Approach fasting with reverence and humility
  • • Share experiences that edify and encourage others
  • • Remember that we fast to draw nearer to God, not for recognition

Unity in Diversity

Our community welcomes people from all Christian backgrounds and traditions. We celebrate our diversity while maintaining unity in Christ.

  • • Respect different denominational practices and traditions
  • • Focus on what unites us in Christ rather than what divides us
  • • Be gracious when discussing theological differences

Participation Guidelines

Joining and Commitment

  • Prayerful Consideration: Before joining a fast, pray about your participation and ensure you can commit to the full duration.
  • Medical Wisdom: Consult healthcare providers if you have medical conditions, are pregnant, nursing, or taking medications.
  • Age Considerations: Young people under 18 should have parental guidance and approval before participating.
  • Honest Participation: Only claim days you actually intend to fast. Our records help others see the movement of God.

Types of Fasting

We welcome various forms of biblical fasting:

  • Complete Fast: No food or drink (water fasts should be limited and done with caution)
  • Food Fast: No food, but water and essential fluids allowed
  • Partial Fast: Specific foods or meals (like the Daniel Fast)
  • Media Fast: Abstaining from entertainment, social media, or technology
  • Activity Fast: Giving up specific activities or habits

Communication Standards

When Sharing Experiences

✓ Encouraged:

  • • Sharing how God has worked in your life during fasting
  • • Encouraging others with scripture and spiritual insights
  • • Asking for prayer for specific needs or challenges
  • • Offering practical tips for successful fasting

✗ Discouraged:

  • • Boasting about your fasting discipline or duration
  • • Graphic descriptions that might trigger eating disorders
  • • Judging others for different fasting choices
  • • Political content or controversial non-spiritual topics

Language and Tone

  • Speak with Grace: "Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt" (Colossians 4:6)
  • Build Up, Don't Tear Down: Use words that encourage and edify others in their faith journey
  • Be Humble: Share victories with humility, acknowledging God's grace and strength
  • Show Compassion: Be understanding of others' struggles and challenges

Safety and Spiritual Wellness

⚠️ Important Safety Guidelines

  • • Never encourage dangerous fasting practices
  • • If someone shares concerning health symptoms, gently suggest medical consultation
  • • Remember that fasting is meant to draw us closer to God, not harm our bodies
  • • Be mindful of those who may struggle with eating disorders
  • • Extended fasts (beyond 3 days) should involve medical supervision

Spiritual Protection

  • Stay Grounded in Scripture: Base all spiritual insights on biblical truth
  • Avoid Extremes: Fasting should enhance your spiritual life, not become an obsession
  • Community Accountability: Share your fasting journey with trusted spiritual mentors
  • Balance: Maintain regular worship, prayer, and fellowship during fasting periods
